Monica Buckland
With over 30 years’ as a professional conductor in Europe, the UK, USA and Australia, Monica brings the vision and passion to build on Bel a cappella’s reputation for high-quality performances which explore the diversity of choral repertoire.
Monica’s considerable choral experience includes 16 years as musical director of ars cantata zürich. She has directed many other professional, amateur and student choirs, and led singing workshops and seminars in Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe.
Monica also has extensive orchestral experience, with a career conducting European orchestras ranging from the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich to student orchestras at the TU Dresden. Since arriving in Australia she has been Musical Director of the Balmain Sinfonia and has also guest conducted projects with other ensembles, such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s concerts for schools.
In addition, she has held a number of university positions, and spent some time as Director of a Swiss conservatoire. She is currently Adjunct Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, and continues to teach at the Palucca Hochschule in Dresden.
